Rules & Etiquette

Golf Rules and Etiquette

The rules of golf have been developed over many years to ensure a fair game and that you can deal with any situation that may arise on the course.  A good knowledge of the rules is essential to ensure that you play fairly and without upsetting your playing partners and also to make sure that you can take full advantage of the many reliefs that are available to you in tricky situations on the course.

Golf etiquette covers a lot of the practicalities of playing and interacting with your group and others on the course that are not specifically covered in the Rules of Golf but will make life a lot easier for you.

The links below will take you to some of the best sources of information we have found on golf rules and etiquette.

R & A Rules of Golf Explorer

The R & A (originally The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) publishes lots of information that is useful for golfers.  The Rules Explorer is an interactive application with everything you could need to know about the rules and etiquette plus guidance on pace of play, equipment and amateur status as well as a rules quiz

There is also a Quick Guide to the Rule s of Golf

R & A Guide to Golf Etiquette

BBC Rules of Golf and other helpful golf information

A good guide with lots of information and explanations, also covers etiquette, scoring and handicaps.
