Skip Intro – Straight to BREAKS

By Kevin Murray

2 Times Host of the British Open

Royal Cinque Ports has been the scene of many Championships since that first Open and, since 1925, has been home every year to the Halford Hewitt Public Schools Championship. It is a place where all who visit leave with a feeling of having experienced something special and a desire to return.

It’s little wonder that the great Bernard Darwin wrote of ‘a truly great course, most testing and severe of all championship courses’ of ‘skylarks’ and ‘white cliffs above Pegwell Bay and shipping viewed through the long plate glass windows’. Many would also agree with Sir Peter Allen when he wrote: ‘if I had one last round to play on earth, it would surely be on the links at Deal’. Why not come and discover for yourself?

One of Only 14 Courses to have hosted The British Open

Browse the website, add to your fascination, it’s a journey of a lifetime. Julius Caesar first led his conquering armies across the English Channel over 2000 years ago; St Augustine came to bring Christianity to Britain 1500 years ago; the ancient Cinque Ports date back 1000 years; and Henry VIII’s castles at Deal and Walmer a mere 400 years or so. All of this, virtually on the ground where Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club stands today.
